I am Boudewijn and this is my humble abode. I know what you’re thinking, and thank you very much, but no I’m not. You can call me bow-de-vain, or come up with a whacky nickname - your call. I like to design things – pretty things, simple things, digital things, anything, as long as it’s usable. Sounds simple? I think it can be.
Fresh Out of School
I am fresh out of school. Some would say inexperienced. I would say a blank slate, enthusiastic, uncorrupted and unspoiled. This means I still have a fresh, albeit slightly romanticized and idealistic look on how things “should” be done. It also means I have to spend less time unlearning bad practices, and instead get to spend more time picking up new ones.
What I Love
In short: anything and everything – as long as it’s done right. I am a huge movie buff, I love my guitar, music, cooking, drawing, traveling, computer games, flying, photography, graphics, and much, much more. And with all things I love, I like to both consume as well as create. This is what makes user centered design so interesting to me, because I often look at a product as both a user and a developer. I believe in designing for the user, both in terms of usability as well as functionality.
Meticulous
I am meticulous. For all things that interest me and I want to try my hand at, it would feel unjust to me to not try and excel at them. This often means that I will only take on a limited number of projects at the same time, to be able to deliver the best possible result. I want it done right, or not at all. This also means that I have no problem abandoning a project deemed unsuccessful, or irrecoverable.
In the Meantime
I keep busy doing what I love; honing my graphic design skills, learning new software and techniques, writing and planning my next short movie project. I don’t plan to settle for just any job. I’m looking for a place where I can express myself, learn from those around me, and where it is allowed, nay, encouraged to make mistakes in the process. And hey, if I can do all that and make rent while doing it, that would just be the best of both worlds.
